Hi! I'm Aileen

Aileen

I am a Thai-British multidisciplinary creative based in Central Scotland. As a freelance photographer I specialise in portrait, event and outdoor photography. I am also a freelance writer with over 40 published investigations, features, opinion pieces and reviews.

Through my art I explore disrupting narratives, reclaiming histories and building alternative futures using visual art, poetry, film and sound. Decolonising The Outdoors is an ongoing project that combines interdisciplinary and socially engaged practices.

Writing

While working as a policy and comms specialist I covered consumer rights, money, housing, technology, financial access, and diversity and inclusion.

As a freelance writer I focus on arts and culture, social justice and climate justice issues. I have bylines in The Courier, Bella Caledonia, Migrant Women Press and shado magazine, among others.

Outside of my journalism and nonfiction work, I enjoy writing and performing poetry. My poetry has won the Bold Types Scottish Women's Creative Writing Competition and has been published in various journals and anthologies. My performances include Push The Boat Out Poetry Festival and Hidden Door Arts Festival.
